HAZEL SENDS GOODRICH NUTS!

Thursday March 17th witnessed the arrival in Goodrich of Punk Icon and Film Star Hazel O’Connor and her Bluja Trio, as she swept into town to perform the fifth of the twenty seven dates of her brilliant “Blonds on Fire” Tour.

Playing to a packed Village Hall the show was opened by Tensheds. (aka Matt Millership) A performer since the age of six, he trained as a classical pianist before making a living as a musical troubadour. Performing songs from his latest recording “Crazy Beautifiul we were enthralled by the chameleon like personalities of this talented artist – from poetic piano man to the rockabilly rebel.

After a well deserved drink at the concert bar it was time for the main event. Hazel O’Connor accompanied by the sublime saxophonist Clare Hirst (Bellestars, Communards, David Bowie,) and the virtuoso pianist and vocalist Sarah Fisher (Eurythmics, Sax in the City).

Striding into the Goodrich spotlight Hazel immediately had the audience in her thrall, performing ageless songs from her cult movie Breaking Glass; Eighth Day, and Big Brother which seemed even more relevant in our present times. These songs were cleverly interwoven with new material Driftwood and Rebecca and the timeless classics,Summertime, Stormy Weather and God Bless The Child. Highlights were, Will You with it’s legendary sax solo and the haunting version of Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars.

Each tune was accompanied by Hazel’s poignant and witty dialogue as we journeyed through her musical life. Hazels unique voice was superbly complimented throughout by the powerful but sympathetic playing of Clare and Sarah. For those fortunate enough to be there this was a very special and memorable evening.

After the concert Hazel generously spent an hour of her time mingling with the audience, sharing stories and jokes with her appreciative fans. This iced the perfect cake.
