Rock the Equinox beats the Recession Blues

The villagers of Goodrich rocked the night of the Equinox (Saturday March 21st) and successfully beat the recession blues. For one night only the band of local musicians became essentially a human jukebox with the audience picking the songs that were played from a selection that covered the 50’s, 60’ 70’s and more. This latest Goodrich Music event was fully sold out, with Goodrich Village Hall filled to capacity. The intention behind Rock the Equinox was to raise sufficient funds to support a low cost and high quality musical event in Goodrich later in the year. Once again, Goodrich Music triumphed. Those who were lucky enough to be there had an amazing time, and another event, yet to be announced, is something for everyone to look forward to later in the year.

“The band were amazing and did us proud” says organiser Tom Richardson. The band was made up of local musicians from Twisted Blues and Twisted Jazz (Andy Herbert, Tom Richardson and Brian Fisher) and they were aided by Jon Duffett from the Deadbeats and local drummer Richard Webb. They learnt at least thirty new songs in three weeks from Hendrix to U2 via Led Zeppelin and even Roy Orbison, so that the Village Hall rang with the very best of local rock and roll.

Dancing followed a tasty meal and the bar provided saw lots of trade as everyone worked up a good thirst through hearty dancing. Thanks are due to Goodrich Music for organising such a happy outburst of fun (Matthew Constance, Andy Herbert, Anne Colvin and Tom Richardson) and making it happen. In addition, a big thank you is given to all those who helped before, during and after the event. The chefs, bar staff and helpers; the decorators who livened up the Village Hall with stars and album sleeves; Ian Godsave for superb lighting; and to Jolly’s of Goodrich for publicity and ticket sales. The biggest round of thanks must go to the people of Goodrich for having a ball, beating the recession blues, and well and truly ‘rocking the Equinox’.
